Since 1994, After School Discovery, Inc. (ASD) has nurtured children's interest in education and learning through fun, engaging programs. Students have experienced the magic of science while looking through microscopes, connected to learning through cooking, created modern dance choreography with professional dancers, and been inspired by their success in learning. Over the years ASD has grown and has provided over 25,000 learning opportunities.
ASD collaborates with local school districts, organizations and businesses in order to better carry out its mission. Research has shown that a child's success in school is influenced by parents, schools and community members working together to support student achievement. ASD is an essential link in encouraging a strong support system for students through a community learning support team, volunteer programs and mentorship opportunities.
After School Discovery is a unique organization that offers enrichment opportunities to children that inspire their creativity and stimulate their young minds beyond the school day. ASD develops dynamic programs using an experiential learning model and aligns its classes to state academic standards.
From the beginning, the arts have been a key component - using visual arts, dance, music and drama to reinforce core curricular areas. Creating a safe environment focusing on responsible behavior cultivates a positive learning environment. Through a wide variety of programs, ASD reaches elementary students throughout Ashtabula County, Ohio.
ASD is leading the way to excellence in after school programming. ASD has received commendations for its programming from the Ohio Environmental Education Fund, the Ohio Arts Council and other organizations.

The MISSION of After School Discovery
The mission of the After School Discovery, Inc. (ASD) is to provide and promote enrichment opportunities that encourage all children and their families to become life-long learners through creative thinking, problem solving and other higher level thinking skills.
ASD provides high quality activities and programs that stimulate young minds beyond the normal curricula. Objectives support the mission of ASD:
• Students will learn new art forms, new skills and show self-growth while interacting with other students.
• Students will show evidence of creative thinking and problem solving.
• Instructors will utilize creative methods, including inquiry based learning, to stimulate students' learning.
• Parents will be invited to take part in culminating events whenever possible.
• Schools, partners, and the community at large will foster students' learning.
• Volunteerism will be cultivated as a major component of the program.
HOW is ASD funded?
After School Discovery is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is independent from the local school systems. In addition to grants, financial support comes from the local school systems and PTO's, as well as donations from local businesses and organizations, community leaders and parents.
