May of 2026 brought the GOLD to ASD with the Step up to Quality status after a very thorough onsite inspection at Discovery Cove Child Care & Youth Development Center. Molly Lynch, Discovery Cove Administrator and Shianna Bahamundi, Administrative Assistant have worked diligently to make sure that Discovery Cove was following all the required rules and regulations and then raised the expectations to GOLD level with the help of the DC team!
Congratulations to the Discovery Cove Team – everyone worked to make this come to the level of ASD expectations for our students – it is all about the children and their life success!
Summer of Discovery 2026, Celebrating America’s 250, was a huge success for ASD’s Team and the133 participating students. Summer always includes academics – learning about American Symbols & why they are important, historical documents and of course reading and math skills! Enrichments of Lego Stem, CATCH nutrition and Fitness, Art Club, Patriotic Music, Fun with Food, Girls Circle, Micro Sports and Earth Advocates were enjoyed by all.
They also received a visit from authors Jonathan and Aaron Ferrara, who helped they write and provide graphics for their follow up book Reaper Cat and the Monster of Lake Erie. Author Judi Lifton presented and worked with each classroom about Folktales and her travelogues. Rolesia Holman and the ACDL Librarians both shared stories and books with the students. Then students were blessed to have a lesson and performance by Simple Gifts folk music duo.
So many wonderful activities that engaged the students for five weeks and then on the last day they were able to share some of their learning experiences with their family members, included them in a sing a long and visited with George Washington and Elizabeth Stanton.
